What the license covers

Two things we do as a licensed dealer.

A Type 01 Federal Firearms License is one of the most common FFL types, and one of the most useful. Here is what it lets us do for you across the counter.

Firearm Sales

Direct retail sales of handguns, rifles, and shotguns to Missouri residents (and long gun sales to qualifying out of state customers). All sales include the required NICS background check, run on site.

FFL to FFL Transfers

Buying a firearm online or from out of state? Have it shipped to our FFL and we will complete the transfer for you: accepting delivery, logging it into our bound book, running the NICS check, and putting it in your hands.

The Transfer Process

How to ship a firearm to us.

FFL transfers are routine work. The whole process, from your seller's shipping label to walking out with your firearm, usually takes about a week.

    Find your firearm

    Buy from any online dealer, manufacturer, or out of state private seller. At checkout you'll be asked for the receiving FFL: that's us.

  2. 02

    Tell the seller to ship to Bossert's

    Provide the seller our contact information: Bossert Service and Body Shop Inc, 434 NE 32nd St, Kansas City, MO 64116, FFL 5-43-047-01-8F-07460, phone (816) 452-2002. Most online dealers have us on file already.

  3. 03

    We accept delivery

    We sign for the package, log the firearm into our federal bound book, and notify you when it is ready for pick up.

  4. 04

    Come complete the transfer

    Bring a current government issued photo ID that shows your current address, such as a driver's license. If the address does not match or is not shown on the photo ID, you also need a supplemental government document with your name, address, and date. You complete the ATF Form 4473, we run the NICS background check on site (usually under 10 minutes), you pay the transfer fee, and the firearm is yours.

What to bring.

  • government issued photo ID with current address. Missouri driver's license or state ID showing your current residential address. If your address has changed, bring a utility bill or lease to corroborate.
  • Age requirements. Handguns: 21 or older. Long guns (rifles, shotguns): 18 or older. Federal law.
  • Method of payment. Cash or major credit / debit card. We do not accept checks.
  • Time for the NICS check. Background checks usually clear in under 10 minutes. Occasionally a check comes back delayed. If NICS has not resolved the check within 3 business days, federal law allows (but does not require) the dealer to complete the transfer. We will call you as soon as your check resolves.

The firearms inventory at Bossert's is part of the daily counter business: modern handguns and rifles for hunters, sportsmen, and licensed carry alongside the occasional vintage milsurp piece. Firearms are kept secured in our vault rather than out on display, and inventory rotates as estates, auctions, and distributor allocations come through.
